Back to School

Kindergarten classes will have staggered start dates/orientation days from September 1 to 3. The specific schedule will be shared with families.
Is your child turning five on or before Dec. 31, 2021? If so, there’s still time to register for kindergarten. Simply complete the online registration form.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION CHECK LIST:
- Determine your child’s designated school
- Scan and upload all required documents: proof of name, residence, date of birth and citizenship.
- Additional documents to scan, if applicable include: Guardian Letter and Parental Custody Agreement if restrictions on access.
Once the online registration is complete and submitted, a confirmation notice is sent to the given email address.
To help families prepare, Elk Island Public Schools has put together an online toolkit to make the transition as smooth as possible. The kit includes information on registration, important dates, programming options, what to expect, eligibility, how to find your designated school, transportation and more.

Tools for School
If you’re a parent, or know of a parent, who needs help purchasing school supplies, we can help. EIPS has once again partnered with the United Way for the 2021-22 Tools for School campaign. Annually, Tools for School in EIPS provides backpacks filled with school supplies to students in kindergarten to Grade 12 whose families have limited resources. When classes resume, the backpacks are respectfully distributed to students who’ve order them. To place an order, contact the EIPS Central Services office at 780-464-3477.
The Division is also accepting donations for the campaign. If you have the means to do so, why not pick up a few extra supplies when you’re back-to-school shopping. Donations can be dropped off at EIPS Central Services.

School Fees
Families are invoiced for school fees at the beginning of every school year. Fees are due within 30 days of the invoice date. The simplest, and most convenient, way to pay school fees is by logging in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. There you can view your fees and pay them online using Visa, MasterCard or debit card—when available from your financial institution.
If circumstances exist where you are unable to pay your fees, you can apply to have fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The 2021-22 fee waiver application deadline is Dec. 15, 2021.

All families using EIPS Student Transportation services for the 2021-22 school year have received a tentative route schedule and the applicable invoice. Transportation fees are now due and can be paid online. Bus passes and updated route information are mailed to families in August.
Haven’t registered for Student Transportation yet? There’s still time. Contact Student Transportation at 780-417-8151.
Little Elk Island Adventure
For all pre-kindergarten and kindergarten first-time bus riders, the Division offers the Little Elk Island Adventure program. It’s an opportunity for new students and their parents to learn about bus safety, the danger zone, how to board the bus and scan their bus pass, how to sit properly on the bus and EIPS’ Code of Conduct.
Sessions will take place in Sherwood Park and Fort Saskatchewan in mid- to late-August.
